My Nighttime Skincare Routine

06 July 2015

Hi there cupcakes~! ヽ(^◇^*)/

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far! (Or winter, depending on where you are in the world. ^^)

As you lovelies may or may not know, I not only love clothes, but cosmetics, too. So I thought it would be fun to share with you guys my current nighttime skincare routine!

For your reference, my skin type is very sensitive, combination. Complexion is fair. My skincare routine is therefore tailored to be gentle, in hopes of promoting anti-aging and moisturization without traumatizing my skin (which is ridiculously easy to do, omg).

Alrighty then, here is my current skincare routine for nighttime! I hope you find it helpful. ^_^

All products and links to buy them will be listed at the end of this post.

Note: All of these products were purchased with my own money, this is not a sponsored post.

Cleansing

I cleanse twice at night, once with a cleansing oil, and again with a foaming cleanser. I was reallllly skeptical of oil cleansers before, because ewww oil right?

But this one from Hadalabo is super gentle and super effective (it removes my waterproof mascara!):

In case you are new to oil cleansing, it works like this: on a DRY face, pump oil onto your palm, and massage it all over your face. I do this for about 60 seconds. If I'm wearing makeup, I like to then pump a second time and massage that oil on my eyes. I massage the oil downwards over my lashes with my middle finger gently for about 30 seconds.

Next, wet your hands and pat your face - you are "emulsifying" the oil, i.e. keeping it from feeling like grease when you rinse it off (you'll know you're doing this right when the oil turns white). Do this for maybe ten seconds, then rinse normally! I rinse 17 times with lukewarm water and then 5 times with cold, because I'm weird and slightly OCD lol~

For my foaming cleanser, I swap between these two:

The first one is from Hadalabo, and it's super gentle and doesn't dry my skin out at all (which is saying a lot). I squeeze out about an inch/2.5cm of product and massage it all over my face for 60 seconds, and rinse.

The second one is from Clinique, and omg, my skin never feels cleaner than when I use this cleanser. My face feels literally squeaky-clean. A little goes a long way - I use about a dime size amount, massage it on my face for 60 seconds, and rinse.

The trouble is, it's quite drying, so I can't use it every day. So, I alternate between the two, using my Clinique cleanser when my skin is feeling gross (if I've worn makeup several days in a row, for instance, or gotten really sweaty), and my Hadalabo one for when my skin is calm or not in a state where I can afford to dry it out.

Exfoliating

I exfoliate deeply every two or three days with Cure Natural Aqua Gel.

I. LOVE. THIS. PRODUCT.

After washing your face and thoroughly drying it, massage a pump of this all over your face (excluding your eye area) for 30-60 seconds. You will literally see the dead skin coming off, and wahhh my skin is so soft and bright after using this. Rinse normally.

Make sure you do NOT use any other exfoliants that day when you use this, because over-exfoliating is not good.

Toner/Essence/Lotion

My favorite toner for a long time has been Missha's Time Revolution...but this year Missha decided to reformulate it. T____T WHYYYYY.

Anyway, I've seen many people complaining that the new formula caused a reaction of sorts, and I can't even use scented detergent without reacting to it, so for now I'm going to try something new.

I will start using Innisfree Soybean Energy Essence (Light) once my last bottle of Missha Time Revo runs out...I'll have to let you guys know how it goes! I chose the Light version because it was described as being similar in texture to the Missha one, and I really liked Missha Time Revo's texture.

I also realllllly want to add in Hadalabo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion to my routine, since my skin struggles a bit with staying moisturized. We'll see hehe~

Serum

My favorite serum is kind of obscure, but it's a MAP vitamin C serum from NuFountain.

Vitamin C is one of the best anti-aging ingredients out there, as it can stimulate collagen production. Another added benefit is that it lightens acne scars!

This serum in particular is also hydrating! What I also like about this serum is that it's MAP and not L-ascorbic vitamin C, which is harsher on my skin.

I use about 5-6 drops and spread it evenly over my face and neck. Spread it quickly, because it becomes difficult to spread fast! It does feel sticky at first, but allow it to absorb into your skin for a minute or two, and it won't be sticky anymore.

Read the directions for storage if you ever do get this serum - they are verrrrry important!

Moisturizer

I'm not 100% happy with my current moisturizer, but I can't find anything else that a) doesn't have a bunch of ingredients that irritate my skin but also b) promotes anti-aging and other good things without being $3535454554. This moisturizer is nothing incredible, but it does the job and doesn't break your wallet!

Isn't the packaging adorable?! This Molang Whitening Cream by Chica Y Chico is what I'm using at night right now. A little goes a long way, so don't overdo it! It does come with a little spatula, but I'm too impatient to use it lol so I just use a clean finger.

It doesn't have the best smell lol, but I've gotten used to it, and my face is nicely moisturized when I wake up. This cream also has brightening properties woo~ It doesn't have SPF though, so it's not suitable for daytime.

Tip: Spread it evenly on your face, and then PRESS it with your hands. If you try to rub it in, it will roll. It feels greasy and like it will never absorb if you don't rub it in, but it will, it just takes a little time.

Eye Cream

I use *deep breath* Mizon Intensive Firming Solution Collagen Power Firming Eye Cream. WOW WHAT A TITLE.

Nothing miraculous, but doesn't irritate or burn my eyes at ALL, which is huge because everyyyy other eye cream bothers my eyes.

Remember to apply with your ring finger, patting/pressing, not rubbing. I usually also press with the heels of my palms once to get rid of the excess (it will take FOREVER to absorb if you don't do this haha).

Lip Balm

Lastly, I apply lip balm! I like Nivea Kiss of Smoothness - it's good for daytime too, because it's SPF 15!
